Retro Holidays 2016

Standard

Not much changed this year in my Christmas decor. I only found a few new things that “made the cut”. Trying to keep it simple (the struggle is real) has made me much more selective.

Of course there were a few exceptions!

This pretty Christmas card box is a new addition in the peach bathroom.

So are these sweet angel girls. They are actually candle holders.

This great new Hallmark ornament is modeled after a split level mid-century home. I think it looks swell in my knotty pine mudroom.

Our cozy basement family room was decked out for the season.

My rolled gift wrap is corralled in an old shopping cart on wheels.

This table is where I do my wrapping and writing cards. It doubles as an extra dining space when we are entertaining. After Christmas it is perfect for puzzles on a cold winter day. The tablecloth was a recent estate sale find as were some of the Santa and snowman mugs in the buffet.

Some new albums were added to our collection this year.

Here are some of my winter Pyrex in action. I think I was whipping up a hot meal for our oldest who was flying in from Canada for the holidays.

These atomic dishes were a Christmas gift from my youngest. I just love this pattern; it looks great against my counter tops.

I got these great books from my Toronto boy. The Mid-Century Ads is a gem and chock full of colorful advertising on every single page.

Until next time, I hope you are enjoying these slower paced winter days.

We have a few projects planned for the next few months;  be sure to check back.

There Is A Cure for the Summertime Blues

Standard

Hubby and I have managed to get away twice this summer and hit the road for some treasures. And let me tell you, these trips did not disappoint!

A few weeks after buying our awesome atomic sectional, we stumbled upon this coffee table. A perfect tile-top beauty that matches the sofa in shape and color. It has gold metal legs and edging. I think it looks good with the gold framed shadow box on the wall.

We have also been looking for an appropriate front door to replace the 1990’s upgrade that was here. This beauty was in the same mid-century shop as the coffee table. It is new old stock and never been hung! And only cost $75!

Now….do we paint it or stain it? Hubby and I are discussing this.

You know how crazy we are for old record albums. These were all 50 cents each at the ReStore. They were put out by Firestone and I am now looking for one to complete the set.

Who remembers watching Rudolph and singing along to Silver and Gold?

We change-up our framed albums throughout the year and I thought these would look great for summer:

Note the Pan Am jet on this one!

I managed to pick up some Pyrex and an Elvis for my hoard:

A few things for my Etsy shop:

Of course there are always the things you have to leave behind no matter how much of a bargain they are 😦

This set of dishes were an awesome mix of Atomic & Rustic. The whole set was less than $30. I love the groovy shaped snack plates and big platter/ bowl.

100_9896

Lamps anyone? These were all under $30 each. I just don’t need any.

100_9887

Chalk ware ballerinas still in the package. Swoon….

100_9893

Love this clock; but nowhere to hang it. Same thing with the pink/ gray speckled planter.

100_9888

This pink sink with Huddee ring and the matching toilet were in the ReStore. I hope someone snatches them up to save their pink bathroom!

How about your summertime thrifting?

Do you find things that are a great deal but you just don’t need them?

Do you buy them and put them away for a rainy day or leave them behind? I am always torn.

Stay tuned for updates on the exterior here; the cement trucks will be here next week!

Keep or Sell?

Standard

Today there were neighborhood garage sales in a mid-century subdivision not too far from Croydon Place. Because it was rainy, windy and chilly, there were not as many sales as were advertised. Not to worry though; I still got me some deals. I just have a hard time deciding if I should keep the stuff or sell it 🙂

These vintage poker chips will go in the shop for someones next card party. I just hope the hostess has on her newest summer themed apron and is using a Mod ice bucket for those cocktails.

The record albums are for our never ending collection. At 25 cents each, can  you EVER have enough Dean or Frank? We don’t just play them, we frame them and make them art!

This 1960’s souvenir tray of the Arc de Triomphe/Champs Elysees was 25 cents. It would look great in my mid century Paris themed office/craft room. You remember I am a little partial to France mementos 🙂

This large fiberglass serving tray was also a steal for 50 cents. I love the gold and black scene of  birdcages. Many of my serving pieces are gold and black with an atomic vibe.

These are my best deal of the day;  Royal Copley planters!  (Be sure to click on the photo to enlarge it; this photo does not show the details). They were $2 each and I am not sure if I can part with them.

The black and white striped  Deco one is just SO COOL.

The one that is chartreuse and aqua with the  jumping gazelles is similar to one on the kitchen windowsill in Don and Betty Drapers home on Mad Men!

The other two are called Harmony and have tropical leaves. The rose/grey/white one matches my 3/4 bath and the green/chocolate one matches my bedroom!  What a dilemma!

Keep or Sell???

Stay tuned;  next week I will have details of a Mid Century home tour we are taking this weekend in Indy.  I hope to have lots of photos to drool over. I just know we will come home and want to start a new project!
