The Original Tiled Hall Bath is (almost) Done!

Standard

It feels so good to have one room finished in this epic remodel.

You may remember that we are remodeling our kitchen and both bathrooms. Part of this reno involved moving the washer/ dryer from the mudroom back to the main bath, where they were located when our home was built in 1952.

Sounds pretty simple right? Just unhook them and move them in? I wish! Plumbing had to be re-done, the old dryer vent was not up to code and had to be moved, and the built-in cabinets that were covering the old laundry area had to be dismantled and rebuilt. Not to mention I was losing lots of storage space 😦

You may see the “before” photos in the last few posts.

Here are some “after” photos:

The knobs/ pulls are from my old kitchen cabinets and were reused on the cabinetry in here. That little area to the right of the dryer is the only place I could fit a hamper. Luckily it is on wheels and I can roll it out of the way when I need to get to my stuff. I would still like to find a vintage one.

The old doors from the built-ins were cut down and reused on the vanity:

This is the area that needs some very shallow cabinetry for toiletries, either wall hung or on the floor. I am still looking.

I am having a hard time decorating in here since it is now my laundry room AND bathroom. In addition to losing so much storage, I had to make room for laundry supplies.

Is it perfect? No. Is it better? Yes!

I could not see gutting this space to “update” it.  Moving the washer/ dryer back in there also gave me much more room for flexibility in my new kitchen plan!

Stay tuned. The drywall starts getting hung in the kitchen area tomorrow, bright and early 🙂

There Is A Cure for the Summertime Blues

Standard

Hubby and I have managed to get away twice this summer and hit the road for some treasures. And let me tell you, these trips did not disappoint!

A few weeks after buying our awesome atomic sectional, we stumbled upon this coffee table. A perfect tile-top beauty that matches the sofa in shape and color. It has gold metal legs and edging. I think it looks good with the gold framed shadow box on the wall.

We have also been looking for an appropriate front door to replace the 1990’s upgrade that was here. This beauty was in the same mid-century shop as the coffee table. It is new old stock and never been hung! And only cost $75!

Now….do we paint it or stain it? Hubby and I are discussing this.

You know how crazy we are for old record albums. These were all 50 cents each at the ReStore. They were put out by Firestone and I am now looking for one to complete the set.

Who remembers watching Rudolph and singing along to Silver and Gold?

We change-up our framed albums throughout the year and I thought these would look great for summer:

Note the Pan Am jet on this one!

I managed to pick up some Pyrex and an Elvis for my hoard:

A few things for my Etsy shop:

Of course there are always the things you have to leave behind no matter how much of a bargain they are 😦

This set of dishes were an awesome mix of Atomic & Rustic. The whole set was less than $30. I love the groovy shaped snack plates and big platter/ bowl.

100_9896

Lamps anyone? These were all under $30 each. I just don’t need any.

100_9887

Chalk ware ballerinas still in the package. Swoon….

100_9893

Love this clock; but nowhere to hang it. Same thing with the pink/ gray speckled planter.

100_9888

This pink sink with Huddee ring and the matching toilet were in the ReStore. I hope someone snatches them up to save their pink bathroom!

How about your summertime thrifting?

Do you find things that are a great deal but you just don’t need them?

Do you buy them and put them away for a rainy day or leave them behind? I am always torn.

Stay tuned for updates on the exterior here; the cement trucks will be here next week!

The Winter That Never Ends

Standard

If you have been wondering where I have been (or maybe you have not even missed me!) I have been holed up here on Croydon Place, watching snowstorm after snowstorm blow past. In addition, several times the temps have been so cold our local officials have warned to just stay home!

While I have been staying hunkered down much of the time, here is what Dear Hubby was doing. Nonstop. Every day. And night. Without end.

100_8974

Here are a few things I got as Christmas gifts this year from my sweet family: the chalk ware ballerinas were from Hubby, the aqua/ black Hazel Atlas ovide dishes are from our youngest and the atomic aqua/ gold travel themed glasses from our oldest. Do they know me or what?

100_8967

Here are Santa and Rudolph, waving to my poor postman, who really lives up to the Postman’s Creed. I think he was delivering me more Pyrex?

100_8914

On those cold snowy days when I had to venture out for groceries or shipping items, I have tried to hit at least one thrift store. Here are a few of my newest things; some of these are for my Etsy shop.

100_8909

This dollhouse will be just the thing for my soon-to-be granddaughter. It is an L-shaped ranch 🙂 It even came with all the furniture.

100_8908

I have been searching for the elusive “atomic/ shooting stars” Shiny Brite ornament; here it is in pink! It was in that big Woolworths box:

100_8910

Isn’t this little Santa band great? I think I will keep them.

Here is a tension pole lamp I picked up for $30 at a local antique mall. The fact that this shop does not turn the heat on does not deter me one bit. What is a little frostbite, anyway? How do you think it looks in the living room?

100_9286

This pull down light was a $10 garage sale find from 2 summers ago. We just now got around to putting it up in the kitchen. I guess we think if we keep adding cool things to that room that we will never have to fix all that is WRONG with it 😦

100_9285

For some reason being snowed in makes me think I need to cook, bake and spend way too much time in the kitchen. Here is some homemade macaroni & cheese I threw together last week in one of my vintage Pyrex casseroles:

So what have you all been up to this long winter? Any remodeling projects? Any thrifty finds? Let me know!

Stay warm folks!
