Christmas Decorating Tweaked

Standard

I gave you a grand tour of the ranch last Christmas, so this year I will just show you a some new things I have found and some changes we have made. You will probably notice I just worked the new things into the old displays.

Here is a shot of the living room. Some of the framed mid-century LP’s are new this year.

This kitchen shelf was fun to decorate:

More things displayed in the kitchen. Those NOS kitchen towels (with aqua) are just too cool.

In this basement corner, the pole lamp is new. It was $20 at a resale shop near me!

After the sewer back up in the basement last spring, things have changed and moved around down there. Here is a new location for the aluminum tree:

The Poloron light up fireplace has moved upstairs by the living room tree:

This atomic space-age  shadow box is new this year. It usually has some Asian inspired things but is decked for the holidays right now. Note the movie in the background: “Christmas is Connecticut “. One of the best.

How about all of you? Are you done with your decorating in this short holiday season?

Mid Mod Mad Chairs, an Atomic Mirror Shadowbox and more!

Standard

One day last week I met dear Hubby for coffee (he works the midnight shift) and we spent a  little time together while we waited for a local advertised sale to open.

Oh. My. Gosh.

It was an old Mom & Pop furniture store that had recently closed. They were selling off all remaining merchandise. We thought we might get a deal on something we probably didn’t even need. And boy did we!

This place had not been remodeled or updated since the late 50’s (my best guess). They had all manner of mid-century furniture, lamps and wall art that had been on display in the store back in the day but have never sold.

It was all a bit dirty so I snapped photos while it was all  lined up in our driveway airing out.

Look what we got for $10!

As if that white one isn’t cool enough, we got another one in black, also $10.

We also got a great pair of tall blonde night stands for $20. They still have their original paper tags on the back. The shelves lift up and flip out to make a nice place for your book, laptop or beverage. During the day you can close them up and hide what is stored in the bottom. These will be used in the basement for storing our ever-growing record album and CD collection.

This blonde 3 piece stacking unit was a mix and match set. Originally you must have been able to pick the pieces you wanted to put together.  The ones we purchased are stamped on the back “bar unit”, “record cabinet” and the other just has a model number. They were $10 each.  They will get stacked in the basement for housing the stereo, albums and CD’s.

This great “Steelmaster” locking file cabinet was also a great find at $20. If Hubby does not want it for the garage or basement I will use it in my craft/ sewing closet. I also think it would work great in a kitchen, for cookbooks, utensils or linens.

You  may remember I picked up a pair of  old  metal chairs (sometimes referred to as motel chairs) at an estate sale for $10. I could see green, yellow and aqua paint under that dirty red. They looked like this:

After a date with some spray paint and primer, this is the new color:

And here is the goody I promised to show you from our buying trip a few weeks ago:

This was only $60. I have to get some plastic greenery for the little box. It is already hanging in the living room.

So do you think I got some deals?

Atomic / Tiki Drapes Round Out the Master Bedroom

Standard

We are finally finished in the master bedroom.

Just this morning, I finished making the drapes and got those hung. Take a look:

The walls are Caribbean Coral from the Sherwin Williams Suburban Modern Collection. That tension pole lamp was picked up from a local resale shop. It matches my Tiki theme perfectly.

The only retro looking  fan we could afford:

The bedding was on clearance at Target last fall.

Another shadow box for my collection.

Some of my Tiki themed finds:

Here is a close up of the drapery fabric. I got it on Ebay for a great price. It is an  Atomic 50’s reproduction from 2002.  I wanted to coordinate with my green and yellow pottery pieces, the coral on the wall and that funky orange and green pole lamp!

It was a dream to work with. Heavy enough to drape nicely and light enough to make the sewing simple.

What do you think folks? Have I hit the mark with this room?
